Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
