Both Deceased Students Revealed in the Providence Campus Shooting as Authorities Persist in Search for Killer.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in the recent violent attack on the university campus were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant carried on following the discharge by local law enforcement of the single suspect questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The student Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was described as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a ceremony on Sunday.

She served as second-in-command of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also expressed words of sorrow on social media, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Remembering her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”

The Second Victim

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, according to relatives.

Umurzokov’s identity was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.

Details of the Attack

Nine more persons were hurt in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male taken into custody in a search at a hotel about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“There is a killer at large,” declared Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last day or so.”

Public Fear

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our city”.

The shooter opened fire inside a room in the building on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a authority told the Associated Press.

Officers that searched the lodging seized two handguns and magazines when the person of interest was arrested, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, a single scholar was released from the hospital, said Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in grave but unchanging health, and another was critically ill, police said on Sunday.

A private school, a private academy in Durham, North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

More Condolences

Cook was honored at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only during her upbringing... but at Brown University she was an incredible light in that specific location as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the organization. “Ella was recognized for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she served her chapter and other students,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the student's death in a tribute. “We extend our sincere condolences to Mr Umurzokov’s family, companions, and fellow students and mourn the loss of his bright future.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US university with about 7,300 undergraduate and three thousand graduate students, took place amid one of at least 392 mass shootings documented across the United States so far in this year, according to records. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
